On this website you will find a number of small Windows applications that I have developed over the years. They are suitable for use by amateur astronomers.
Feel free to download any that you may find useful. Each application is contained in a zipped file. After download you should extract the working file(s) from the zipped file and place it/them in a suitable folder. You may want to create a desktop shortcut to the application. If so, right-click the application file name and select "Create shortcut" from the popup menu that appears. If necessary, drag the new shortcut file onto your desktop.
Because these applications do not have an accompanying code signing certificate it is possible that they may be treated as suspicious by your internet security service and initially blocked from use. If that is the case your computer's administrator (probably you) can instruct the security service to treat them as trustworthy and so remove the block.
Recently, Symantec (i.e. Norton) has introduced a new virus protection feature called WS.Reputation.1 which automatically blocks the use of new applications that have not been taken up by many users. If you use Norton Internet Security you may find that it will now not allow you to open many/all of these applications after download. If that is the case you can override this behaviour by going to Quarantine Restore and confirming that you do want to use the application. Similarly, you may find that Windows will not open the application unless you specifically instruct it to do so.
Some of the zipped files contain a Help file. If that file does not properly display its help text it is probably because the file has been blocked by your operating system. To unblock it right-click on the Help file name and select "Properties" where you should find an "Unblock" button for use.
Please remember that these applications are offered for free on the understanding that you download them entirely at your own risk. I believe them to be safe for use. But I do not assert that they will not corrupt your operating system or personal files and you should take all necessary steps to protect your system and data.
If you have any difficulty in using these applications you can contact me using the Contact form.
